Instructions for Casting Leg for Custom Toad Anti-Gravity Foot Brace™

The cast is essentially a long lower leg cast without padding. Patient should be sitting or lying down so there is no pressure on the calf. First place stockinette over the leg. Apply 1 or 2 layers of fiberglass or plaster casting material from middle of patella to the toes. Mark the patellar tendon, distal patella, fibular head, medial and lateral malleoli and any areas of ulceration or concern with a permanent marker. Split one or both sides of the cast with sheers or saw and remove cast. Label with patients name and allow it to fully harden. The cast is then ready to be sent in for custom brace fabrication. Make sure to pack the cast so that it can’t be crushed during shipping.
